Herbal wine, just the thing for ailing pharaohs 

Researchers say they have found evidence that the Egyptians spiked their wine with medicinal herbs as long as 5,000 years ago.

Chemicals recovered from the pottery indicate that in addition to wine there were savory, blue tansy and artemisia. Other chemicals indicate the possible presence of balm, senna, coriander, germander, mint, sage and thyme.

根據學者近期的研究發現,早在五千年前的埃及人就懂得在酒中混入具有醫療效果的藥草飲用。

經由分析挖掘出土陶器上的物質後,發現除了酒精外還有像是風輪菜、藍艾菊和數種菊科植物的碎屑。而其他的殘留物也有可能是香蜂草、番瀉葉、胡荽、石蠶、薄荷、鼠尾草或百里香等等。
